Monash Health is Victoria’s largest health service with a catchment area of > 1.5 million people. Monash treats 1/3 of all cancer patients in the state of Victoria. Our medical oncology unit has busy inpatient and outpatient service as well as a very active clinical trials unit. Currently, we have 36 active cancer trials across all major tumour streams including 8 phase I trials and 28 phase II/III trials. We have a streamlined ethics submission process with rapid turnaround time (2-6 weeks) and can set up contracts/research agreements in parallel to ethics submission. All of our clinical trial staff (9.0 EFT) are GCP trained and we have a motivated group of investigators (> 10) who oversee trial conduct in oncology. Reflecting our very busy clinical service, we recruit extremely well to clinical trials and have the capacity to substantially increase our activity. Importantly, we now have a purpose-built, state-of-the art clinical trials centre in the new Monash Health Translation Precinct (MHTP). The MHTP is an $84 million building that opened in December 2015 and will be the site for all of our clinical trial activity going forward. The trials centre in the MHTP has 8 beds (allowing overnight stays), 21 chairs, 10 consulting rooms, on-site pharmacy and pathology labs, as well as MRI.
