Clinical Trials Institute (CTI) in Torquay, Vic is seeking a Medical Officer with Principal Investigator responsibilities to join their fast growing team of experienced industry specialists.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Medical Officer / Principal Investigator (PI) to oversee clinical trials conducted at our Victorian site(s).

This is a senior, autonomous PI role suited to a clinician who is genuinely passionate about clinical research and wants to play a meaningful role in the delivery of high-quality, ethically sound trials.

The successful candidate will act as the named Principal Investigator, with full responsibility for medical oversight, participant safety, and protocol compliance across multiple studies.

The position is offered on a contract basis, with flexibility around structure and remuneration for the right candidate.


Key Responsibilities

As Principal Investigator, you will:

  • Act as named PI on approved clinical trials
  • Provide medical and scientific oversight of trial conduct
  • Ensure participant safety and clinical appropriateness at all times
  • Review eligibility, consent processes, and key clinical assessments
  • Oversee the administration and management of investigational products (where applicable)
  • Assess, manage, and report AEs, SAEs, and SUSARs in accordance with protocol and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure trials are conducted in compliance with:
    • ICH-GCP
    • Approved protocols
    • HREC and site governance approvals
    • Applicable Australian regulations
  • Supervise and appropriately delegate duties to Sub-Investigators and research staff
  • Engage with sponsors, CROs, monitors, auditors, and inspectors as required
  • Attend investigator meetings and monitoring visits (on-site or remote)

Non-Negotiable Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Current unrestricted medical registration with AHPRA
  • Eligible to practice independently in Victoria
  • Principal Investigator involvement in a minimum of three (3) clinical trials
    • (Any phase or therapeutic area; interventional or observational)
  • Current Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification
  • All other required clinical trial accreditations and compliance credentials relevant to PI appointment
  • Demonstrated understanding of PI responsibilities and accountability
  • A genuine passion for clinical research and patient-centered trial delivery

Desirable (But Not Essential)

  • Experience across multiple trial phases (Phase II–IV; Phase I advantageous)
  • Prior experience working with sponsors and CROs
  • Therapeutic area expertise aligned with ongoing or upcoming trials
  • Experience in site start-up, recruitment, and trial close-out
  • Comfort operating in an environment with external oversight and audit readiness

Time Commitment & Engagement Model

  • Anticipated commitment of approximately 1- 2 days per week
  • Contract engagement, with:
    • Flexible structure
